Research

The professors of the DPS are distributed by two of the research centres of the School of Engineering:

In this context, the DPS professors have been involved in several research projects with external funding (through European, national and industry).
The PhD programme on Industrial and Systems Engineering (PDEIS) is under the responsibility of both research centres. The PDEIS course provides advanced higher education by promoting high quality research in the areas of Industrial and Systems Engineering. PDEIS grants PhD degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering with the following majors: Industrial and Systems Management, Engineering Economy, Human Engineering, Optimization and Operations Research, Numerical and Statistical Methods.
The DPS is also involved in lecturing several subjects of the Doctoral Course on Leaders for Technical Innovation (MIT-Portugal Programme), in collaboration with FEUP and IST. This programme intends to train knowledge-based leaders for companies with a technological profile, enabling a new European paradigm in managing product development and production systems, supported by a doctoral level education. It also aims at developing human resources competences fostering the innovative application of new knowledge in successful products and/or processes.
