ELECTION OF THE BOARD DIRECTORS OF THE PRODUCTION AND SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT

Professor Paulo Sampaio and Professor Nelson Costa took office as director and deputy director, respectively, of the Department of Production and Systems on 16 May.
The ceremony took place in the meeting room of the Department of Production and Systems, attended by several members of the department and the presidency of the School of Engineering.
Paulo Sampaio is an Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Production and Systems at UMinho and a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre. In 2015, he was a Visiting Scholar at MIT under the MIT-Portugal Programme. He is a lecturer and researcher in the areas of Quality and Organisational Excellence. He has received several awards, including the distinction of Senior Member from the American Society for Quality, recognition as one of the ‘40 New Global Voices of Quality,’ and the Feigenbaum Medal, awarded by the same association in 2012. He is an Academician of the International Academy for Quality. Throughout his career, he has held various positions in international quality organisations, namely the American Society for Quality, the European Organisation for Quality, and the International Academy for Quality.
Nélson Costa is an Assistant Professor of Ergonomics and Human Factors at the University of Minho, and a researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Centre in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), Ergonomics and Human Factors group. He is the author of several articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 30 articles in international conference proceedings and more than 10 book chapters. Nélson Costa has been a member/coordinator of several externally funded international and national research projects in the fields of Ergonomics, Safety and Occupational Health. He has supervised more than 40 master’s theses (completed) at various Portuguese universities and 3 completed doctoral theses. He currently supervises 6 ongoing doctoral projects. Nélson Costa has collaborated with 3 international peer-reviewed scientific journals as a reviewer and is currently associate editor of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Safety (IJOOES), an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal. He has also been a member of the Organising Committee of the International Symposium on Occupational Safety and Health (SHO) since 2008 and the International Symposium on Project Approach in Engineering Education (PAEE) since 2016.
