PROJECT BASED LEARNING IN ENGINEERING

Production systems designed to mitigate marine plastic pollution

The first semester of the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management kicks off with challenging and innovative projects for students.

The interdisciplinary project is based on the application of an active learning methodology — Project Based Learning (PBL) — which promotes the integration of multidisciplinary content in the field of engineering.

Throughout the semester, students develop a large-scale project, carried out in teams, with the guidance and support of lecturers from different Curricular Units.

In the 2025/26 academic year, the work culminates in final presentations and a simulation, using Lego Mindstorms, of production systems designed to mitigate marine plastic pollution, designed by students as part of the Integrated Project in Engineering and Industrial Management.
