1st ALUMNI MEETING

1st @DPS Alumni Reunion brings together different generations to celebrate 50 years of Production and Systems

Some gatherings stay with you forever – and the 1st @DPS ALUMNI Gathering was exactly that.

As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Department of Production and Systems, the Department of Production and Systems (DPS) at the School of Engineering, University of Minho, organised the 1st @DPS Alumni Meeting on 20 June 2026, an initiative designed to bring together graduates from different generations for a chance to reconnect and reflect on the Department’s history.

The event marked a significant milestone in the celebrations, bringing together former students from the various study programmes delivered over five decades, ranging from the first Production Engineering courses to the current fields of Industrial Engineering and Management, Quality Engineering and Management, Operations Engineering and Management, Engineering Project Management, and Systems Engineering and Industrial and Systems Engineering.

The event provided an opportunity for alumni, lecturers and staff to reconnect, strengthening the institutional bond and highlighting the DPS’s contribution to the training of professionals who work across a wide range of sectors, both nationally and internationally.

The initiative stemmed from a challenge set by the Director of the DPS, Professor Paulo Sampaio, with the aim of strengthening the alumni’s ties to the Department and fostering an active and engaged community. The high level of participation and the warm, friendly atmosphere throughout the event support the intention to make this gathering a regular event.

The 1st @DPS Alumni Meeting took on particular significance in the context of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Production and Systems, reinforcing the sense of belonging, the intergenerational bond and the importance of the alumni community in consolidating the Department’s identity and future prospects.

The Department of Production and Systems would like to thank all those who attended the event and rallied colleagues and contacts to take part in the ‘50 Years in Review’ celebrations.
